Connect Slack and message Biilda

On this page

Connect Slack and you can message Biilda from a channel, and Biilda can reach you the same way. Slack needs each workspace to have its own app, so Biilda walks you through making one. It pre-fills the settings and you click through.

Connect Slack

  1. Open Chat and say "connect my Slack", or add Slack from Connectors.
  2. In the Connect Slack window, click Open Slack app creator.
  3. In Slack, review the pre-filled app settings and click Create.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Install App, then Install to Workspace on that page, and click Allow.
  5. Back in Biilda, click Next.
  6. Copy two tokens from your new Slack app's console:
    • Bot token (starts with xoxb-): OAuth & Permissions, then Bot User OAuth Token.
    • App-level token (starts with xapp-): Basic Information, then App-Level Tokens, then Generate Token and Scopes. Add the connections:write scope. You generate this one by hand because the manifest cannot create it.
  7. Paste both and click Next, then Connect. Biilda checks both tokens with Slack and stores them securely on your machine.

When it works you see "Connected to" your workspace name. Click Done.

Set up a channel

Open Communicators. Enter a Channel name (for example "Launch room") and an optional Address such as #channel, then click Add. A channel stays in "setup pending" until a connector backs it. Open its settings to choose the Slack app it uses.

Per-channel settings:

  • Answer @mentions: when on, Biilda replies in a thread whenever someone @mentions it. Turn it off for send-only, where Biilda still posts updates and cards but does not reply.
  • Who answers: choose which AI employees can reply. With none chosen, Biilda's default assistant replies.
  • Quality tier: higher tiers give stronger answers but cost more credits per reply.
  • Approval requests: Biilda posts a card with Approve and Deny buttons when something needs your OK. Anyone in the channel can approve or deny.
  • Notifications: updates like a task finishing or your balance running low.

Keep it running

Biilda only sends and replies to Slack while it is running. It stays active in your tray. Fully quitting stops it.

Seeing what happened

The Messages tab logs every Slack interaction: requests, replies, sends, cards and notifications, with what each did and cost.

When Slack needs an update

Sometimes a new Biilda version needs more Slack permissions. You see an update needed note in Communicators and on the connector under Connectors, with the manifest change and reinstall steps ready. Biilda cannot verify the reinstall itself, so it asks you to confirm with I've updated and reinstalled.
