Install Biilda on Windows or Mac

Updated · 2 min read

On this page

Biilda installs like any other desktop app. One installer contains everything the app needs, so there is nothing else to set up.

Install on your computer

  1. Open the download page. The page suggests Windows or macOS based on your computer.
  2. On Windows, click Download for Windows. The Biilda listing opens in the Microsoft Store — click Install.
  3. On a Mac, click the download button and run the .dmg you downloaded.
  4. Launch Biilda when the install finishes.

The Store listing serves Biilda's own signed installer, so it is the same app, and it keeps updating automatically from Biilda's update feed exactly like a direct install.

On a Mac the page offers Apple Silicon and Intel Mac installers. Pick the one that matches your Mac. See the changelog for what each release includes.

First launch

  1. Welcome to Biilda. Read the short notes, tick the checkbox that accepts the Terms of Service and the risk disclosure, and click Get started.
  2. Sign in to Biilda. Sign in or create an account. See Sign in and your account.
  3. Tell us about your work. A one-time form if you have not completed a profile.
  4. Heads-up screen. The first time you sign in on a device, a short screen titled "You're in the Biilda Beta" explains how to report an issue or request a feature. Click Got it.

Start when you log in

You can have Biilda start when you log in. In Settings, tick Start Biilda when I log in. Your employees and scheduled tasks only run while Biilda is running. Closing the window keeps it running in the tray. Quitting stops everything. See Tasks and schedules.

Updates

Biilda keeps itself up to date automatically. It downloads new versions in the background and installs them at a safe idle moment. When one is ready, Settings shows a Restart and update now button. Check for updates is there too. Details are in Backups and updates.

Where your files go

Everything you build and all your data stay on your computer. Settings has a "This install" panel that shows the version and where your files and data live. More in Privacy and local data.

FAQ

Does Biilda run on Windows and Mac?

Yes. On Windows you get Biilda from the Microsoft Store via the download page. On a Mac you download the .dmg from the download page.

Do I need to install anything else first?

No. The installer includes what the app needs. There are no separate dependencies to install.

Will an update delete what I built?

No. What you build and your data live separately from the app itself, so an update replaces the app and leaves your work in place.
