AI employees and departments

On this page

An AI employee is a configured worker: a name, a role, and instructions on how it should work. Give it skills and tasks and it does the job on its own. A department is a named group of employees around one goal.

Create an employee

The easiest way is Chat.

  1. Open Chat and click the AI employee card, or type something like "make me an email assistant".
  2. Fill in the Role / title and What should they be responsible for?. You can optionally say if any of it should run on a schedule.
  3. Review the plan and accept it. See Chat and plans.

You can also add one directly:

  1. Open Employees.
  2. Click New employee.
  3. Fill in Name, Role (what this employee is) and Instructions (how it should work).
  4. Click Create employee.

New employees start disabled

A new employee does not pick up work until you enable it. Open the employee and click Enable once the setup looks right. The same button reads Disable to turn it off again.

The employee page

Click an employee in the sidebar list to open its page. Each employee shows an honest status light based on its tasks: working, paused on credits, last run failed, or idle and disabled. The page shows:

  • Name, role and instructions, with Edit, Enable or Disable, and Delete buttons.
  • Approve outward actions: a per-employee setting for whether it checks with you before sending, posting or spending. A badge reads Required when it is on, and Turn off switches it off. New employees ask first by default. See Approvals and permissions.
  • Can message: which other employees it can hand work to.
  • Its attached skills, which you can add or detach. See Skills.
  • Its tasks and recent runs, with Run now on each task.

Departments

A department is a named collection of employees. Open Departments to see them. You can install a ready-made department from Templates, or ask Chat to build one. A department does not run on its own; it is a view over its employees, and its status light shows the worst status among them.

Templates

Templates has premade setups you add with one click: employees, skills and tasks already wired together. Installed items are marked "From template". Installed employees and tasks also start disabled. The full list of templates is on the website at Templates.
