Biilda vs Lindy: two ways to hire an AI teammate
Updated October 5, 2026 · 5 min read
Pick Lindy if you want an AI teammate that lives in Slack, iMessage and email, is set up for a team, and you are comfortable with a per-seat monthly plan with a credit allowance. Pick Biilda if you want a desktop app you control, pay-as-you-go credits with no subscription, and plans and approvals that put you in charge of what gets built and sent. Both ask before irreversible actions; they differ mostly in where they run and how you pay.

The short answer
Lindy and Biilda both promise an AI teammate you set up by talking instead of coding. The difference is the shape of the thing. Lindy is a service you reach through Slack, iMessage, email and a browser, and it is priced per user per month with a credit allowance. Biilda is a desktop app for Windows and macOS. You describe what you want in chat, it builds AI employees and scheduled tasks, and you pay with USD credits as you use them.
If you are comparing AI agents for small business, ask two questions first. Where do you want the work to run? And do you want a monthly plan, or a balance you top up? Everything else, including approvals, follows from those two.
When to pick Lindy
Choose Lindy when:
- Your team already lives in Slack and you want a teammate that answers there, or on iMessage.
- You want a service that is set up once by an admin and shared across seats.
- You prefer a predictable monthly price per user.
- You need its specific feature set, such as meeting notes or browser-based computer use. Lindy lists these on its site.
Lindy also publishes compliance claims (SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, HIPAA, PIPEDA). If a customer or regulator asks for those, that matters, and Biilda's security page is where you can judge ours.
When to pick Biilda
Choose Biilda when:
- You want the AI to live on your own computer, with your files, history and connector tokens stored there.
- You do not want a subscription. Biilda is free to download and you only spend credits when work happens.
- You want to see and approve what will be built before anything exists, and have new tasks and employees start switched off until you turn them on.
- You want a hard spend cap so the balance you add is the most you can spend.
How they differ in practice
Sorting the inbox. Both can work on your email. With Lindy you ask the teammate in Slack or email, and it drafts replies. With Biilda you connect Gmail, create an employee in chat, and set a schedule. Drafts wait for your approval instead of sending.
Working as a team. Lindy pools credits across seats, which suits a small team sharing a plan. Biilda runs on one machine, and it is aimed at an owner or solo operator rather than a shared workspace.
Quiet weeks. Lindy's monthly credits refresh each month and do not roll over, per its pricing page. Biilda's purchased credits never expire, so a quiet month costs you nothing extra.
Turning the laptop off. Biilda's scheduled tasks run while the app is open. Quit it fully and nothing runs. A hosted service does not have that limit, so weigh it if you need things to fire at 3 a.m. with your machine asleep.
Pricing compared plainly
When we checked on 2026-10-05, Lindy listed a Team plan priced per user per month by credit tier, from $29.99 for 3k credits, $99.99 for 15k and $199.99 for 35k, plus a Free tier with $50 in credits for new users and custom Enterprise pricing. Its pricing page says credits measure the work Lindy does, are drawn from a shared workspace pool, and that monthly credits do not roll over.
Biilda's model is simpler to state: no plan, no seats. You top up USD credits (minimum $20, one credit is one cent), spend them as Biilda works, and set a cap. Unused credits from a purchase are refundable within 60 days. Because the two meters count different things, credits against credits is not a fair comparison. Run the same week of work on both and compare what you paid.
What "local-first" changes
Your files, history and connector tokens stay on your computer. The AI model itself runs in the cloud, and Biilda's requests to it go through Biilda's servers, so the text Biilda is working on is sent for that call. Lindy makes its own privacy commitments, including that your data is not sold or used to train models. The practical difference is where your records and credentials sit day to day, not whether either product uses a cloud model.
Using both
There is no conflict in trying both. Some owners will let a Slack-native teammate handle team requests and keep Biilda for scheduled work on their own machine, such as a morning briefing or a weekly report. Biilda connects to Gmail and Slack, so the two can point at the same inbox and channels.
A ten-minute way to decide
Write down where your work happens. If it is mostly in Slack threads and shared channels, a teammate that answers there has an obvious appeal, and Lindy is built around that. If your work is mostly your own inbox, your own files and a handful of recurring jobs, a desktop app you talk to may fit better.
Then write down how often you will use it. Lindy's plans are per user per month, with a credit allowance. Biilda bills by usage with no plan, so a quiet month does not cost a subscription fee. Finally, try the same one-sentence job on each: "Every morning, sort my inbox and draft replies to anything urgent." Compare the drafts, the approval steps and what you paid. Biilda is free to download, so the trial costs you a few credits at most.
What to know before you switch
Biilda's scheduled tasks run while the desktop app is open, so a fully quit app means nothing runs. A hosted service does not have that limit. Biilda is also built for one owner or a small team on one machine, not for a large shared workspace with seats. On the plus side, new tasks and employees start disabled until you switch them on, you approve a plan before anything is built, outward actions go through Approvals, and a spend cap limits what you can spend.
Lindy has strengths Biilda does not claim: it lists meeting notes, iMessage access and published compliance certifications. If those are requirements, weigh them first.
Frequently asked questions
How is Biilda different from Lindy?
Lindy describes itself as an AI teammate that works in Slack, iMessage, email and the browser, billed per user per month with a credit allowance. Biilda is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that builds AI employees, tasks and connectors from a chat message, and bills USD credits as you go with no subscription.
Is Biilda cheaper than Lindy?
It depends on how much you use each. When we checked on 2026-10-05, Lindy's Team plan started at $29.99 per user per month with 3k credits. Biilda has no plan: you top up at least $20 and spend credits as it works. A light user may spend less on Biilda; a heavy user should compare using real tasks.
Does Biilda work with Gmail and Slack like Lindy?
Yes. Gmail and Slack are connectors named on our site, and you can reach more from the Connectors area in the app. Lindy says it supports 1,000+ integrations beyond its headline ones, so check both catalogues for the specific tool you need.
Is there an alternative to Lindy that keeps my data on my computer?
Biilda keeps your files, history and connector tokens on your computer. Model requests still go through Biilda's cloud to an AI provider, so the text being processed is sent for that call.
